Nina Bale commands authority over mortality itself, yet the Ford household treats her year of service as a settled debt. Their patriarch once severed a geomantic vein, dooming his bloodline, and bargained his own life to secure her protection for that single term. With the contract expired, the Fords move to discard her, confident the danger has passed. Their calculation shatters when the formidable Cork dynasty appears at their gates, kneeling in desperation. Only Nina can rescue their dying patriarch, and the window to act is vanishing rapidly.
