Serena Ashborne loses the Dawnfire Core to her fiancé and stepsister, who toss her into the Abyssal Rift. The artifact reveals itself as a living Dawnfire Dragon, its rebirth flames keeping her alive and producing three dragonlings. She hides two hatchlings while Kael Draven, ruler of the Drakari court, claims the third. After five years Serena storms back into Vale, seizes the Core, and eradicates her betrayers. Her pursuit of magical relics drags her through the Middle and High Realms, exposing a vast war among royal houses, mage orders, and the ancient Drakari bloodline.
