Mia perceives a numerical devotion meter hovering over each person. For six years childhood sweetheart Jack registered an unbroken hundred, but envy toward the girl he nicknames sunshine causes his figure to decay. Instead of pleading, Mia abandons the relationship and takes up running. On the track she gravitates toward Ethan, whose counter has remained steady at a hundred since she once drafted him into a physical-education group. Jack resorts to begging, shadowing her routes and plotting schemes, yet Mia refuses to pursue a dwindling value.
