Derek smashes her mother's pocket watch, stomps her right hand, and beats Professor Charles when he intervenes. All three brothers deny Ava is the Carter heiress, calling her an impostor, and Pierce later chokes her and snaps the same injured hand. At the hospital they continue the humiliation until Ava's assistant Arthur displays the family power ring, which they still reject. Using evidence from Charles, Ava exposes the brothers' hospital profiteering at a banquet, and Edward finally confirms her identity, leading to the brothers' arrest. Their father Marcus then attacks Ava and is taken into custody for attempted murder.
