Three years earlier, Zoe rescued a blind man named Carter and left him a bullet necklace as a token. Ava seized the moment, claimed the rescue, and bound herself to Carter with a double blood oath that cast Zoe aside. Branded an impostor, Zoe suffered a bullet through her right hand at Carter's command. The breaking point arrived when kidnappers forced a choice; Carter reached for Ava, and Zoe lost the child she carried. At Carter's coronation, the ancient Godmother exposes the deception, driving Zoe to burn the oath tattoo from her skin while Carter collapses in regret.
